Inclusivity & Community Connection
Designed with — and for — every Baltimore neighborhood.
These corridors cross dozens of neighborhoods, each with its own story. The strongest submissions treat the gateway as a shared asset — one that gives back to the communities it passes through and invites them to participate.
Why it matters
Infrastructure has too often been a wall between Baltimore's communities. Done well, these gateways can be the opposite: connective tissue that welcomes residents and visitors alike.
What we're looking for
- Acknowledgement of the specific communities adjacent to the corridor
- Opportunities for community input, authorship, and stewardship
- Designs that are welcoming across age, ability, language, and background
- Concepts that celebrate Baltimore's cultural and historical depth
Example moves
- Community-authored mural or storytelling programs
- Multilingual signage and wayfinding
- Gathering spaces at the edges of the corridor
- Partnerships with local artists, schools, and cultural institutions
